Maki Kitazawa
Lecturer/Craft artist.
When I was a child, I was impressed by the fact that I could make various things by turning flat cloth into three-dimensional objects at the handicraft shop run by my mother
where I spent time of my childhood.
It made me love creating.
After graduating from high school, I enrolled at the Central Saint Martins college of Art and Design in London, where I studied fashion design and textile printing.
After I graduated, I was in charge of planning textiles and accessories at a fashion company.
I wanted to make food, clothing, and house with my own hands,
so I moved to a place where there was soil nearby, after giving birth to my first child.
When I create my works, I place great importance on creating the first impulse and emotion that make me want to create, which give the audience fun and rich communication.
I am also a part-time lecturer at a vocational school and
conduct craft and expression workshops for children.
As an extension of that, there is a space in my house that used to be a sake brewery, where I want to run a lodging share studio so that art students and artists can concentrate on creating
three-dimensional and large-scale works.
Through creation, I will create a way to live happily for those around us.
